How old is my boiler?
Age is the single biggest predictor of a winter breakdown — and of how much gas you're burning for nothing. Put the install year in and we'll show you where yours sits.

How old is my boiler?
Enter the year it was installed — it's usually on the Benchmark certificate inside the boiler's manual, on a sticker behind the front panel, or the first four digits of the serial number. Not sure? Guess the year you moved in and we'll work from there.
Where to look
Three ways to find your boiler's age
Benchmark certificate
The green or grey booklet that came with the boiler. The commissioning page is dated and signed by the installer — the most reliable answer there is.
The data badge
Drop the front flap or look under the boiler. Worcester, Vaillant and Ideal all print a serial number where the first four digits are the week and year of manufacture.
Your gas safety records
Old service records, the EPC for the property or the survey from when you bought the house will usually name the boiler and its age.
What age means
The realistic lifespan of a gas boiler
0 – 6 years
Usually still in guarantee. Service it annually to keep it that way.
Service only
7 – 9 years
Out of guarantee for most brands. Worth keeping, worth insuring.
Repair
10 – 12 years
The replacement window. Parts get pricier, efficiency has drifted.
Plan ahead
13 – 15 years
Running on borrowed time. Repairs rarely make financial sense.
Replace
15+ years / standing pilot
Non-condensing or near enough. Costing you every day it runs.
