Powerflushing

Central heating powerflushing

Cold spots at the bottom of radiators, noisy pipes or a boiler that keeps locking out usually means magnetite sludge. We bring our own powerflushing machine, pump and magnets to every job — no subcontracting, no waiting for equipment.

Signs your system needs flushing

Cold bottoms on radiators

Heat at the top, cold at the bottom is the classic sign of sludge settling in the rads.

Boiler kettling or banging

Black iron oxide deposits make the boiler noisy and can damage the heat exchanger.

Slow to warm up

A sludged system can't circulate properly, so rooms take ages to reach temperature.

Repeated pump or valve faults

Magnetite grit wears out pumps, diverter valves and zone valves faster than it should.

What the job includes

  • Full system assessment before we start — we check every radiator and the boiler
  • Connect our own powerflushing pump and magnetic filter to the system
  • Flush each radiator individually and reverse the flow to shift stubborn deposits
  • Add inhibitor and balance the system so every room heats evenly
  • Dispose of the dirty water and leave the pipework and carpets protected

Powerflush FAQs

Do I need a powerflush with a new boiler?

Not always. Every new boiler we fit gets a chemical hot flush and magnetic filter as standard. We only recommend a full powerflush if your existing radiators are cold at the bottom, the water is black, or your old boiler has been throwing sludge into the system.

How long does a powerflush take?

A typical 8–10 radiator system takes 3–5 hours. Larger systems or heavily sludged ones can take a full day. We quote the time upfront so you can plan around it.

Will it make a mess?

No. We use dust sheets, pipework protectors and our own pump, and we take the dirty water away with us. We leave the system balanced and the inhibitor topped up.

Can powerflushing fix a boiler breakdown?

It can fix issues caused by sludge, like a noisy heat exchanger or a seized pump. If the fault is a failed part we'll diagnose that first so you don't pay for a flush you don't need.
