Common faults
What goes wrong with Ideal boilers
L2 — ignition lockout
Failed to detect a flame. Gas supply, dirty electrode or frozen condensate in winter.
F1 — low water pressure
Below roughly 0.5 bar. Repressurise, but repeated drops mean a leak or a failed expansion vessel.
L1 — no circulation
Poor flow through the heat exchanger. Usually sludge, a sticking pump or a stuck diverter valve.
F2 — flame loss
Boiler lights then drops out. Often condensate, gas pressure, or a failing flame sensing lead.
Leaking heat exchanger
A known weak point on older Logics. Usually the point at which replacement beats repair.

Is your Ideal worth repairing?
Ideal Logics are cheap to repair for the first eight years or so. Once the heat exchanger or PCB goes on a ten-year-old Logic, the repair cost gets close to a third of a new boiler and we'll normally advise replacing.
Fault codes
Ideal fault codes we see most
Low pressure
Pressure below 1 bar — heating won't run properly
Not an emergency, but a system losing pressure weekly is leaking somewhere. Get it found before it damages floors or ceilings.
Frozen condensate
Boiler locked out after a cold night
Often a DIY fix. If it refreezes every cold snap, get the pipework corrected properly.
Symptoms
Or start with what it's doing
Boiler losing pressure
A sealed heating system should hold roughly 1 to 1.5 bar cold. If yours keeps sliding towards zero, water is escaping somewhere — pressure does not simply evaporate.
Boiler leaking water
A leaking boiler is never something to leave. Water and electrics in the same casing means the PCB is on borrowed time, and a slow leak will rot the heat exchanger from the outside in.
No hot water
When the heating works but the taps run cold, the boiler is firing — it just is not sending the heat to the right place. That narrows the fault down to a handful of components.
Boiler keeps turning off
A boiler that lights and then shuts down within a minute or two is protecting itself. Something in the safety chain — flow, flame, pressure or airflow — is not happy.
Radiators cold at the bottom
Cold at the top and hot at the bottom means trapped air — bleed it. Cold at the bottom and hot at the top means magnetite sludge sitting in the radiator, and bleeding will do nothing at all.
Boiler making a banging noise
Boilers make noise, but they should not make new noise. A change in sound is nearly always the first warning that something is scaling, sticking or starving of flow.

Frequently asked questions
Do you repair Ideal Logic boilers?
Yes, they're one of the most common boilers we attend. Parts are cheap and widely stocked, so most Ideal repairs are done on the first visit.
How long does an Ideal Logic last?
Realistically 8–12 years. Annual servicing, clean system water and a magnetic filter make a big difference at the top end of that range.
How much is an Ideal boiler repair?
Typically £120–£320 inc VAT. Ideal parts are among the cheapest on the market, which keeps repair bills down. Fixed price given before we start.
Is the Ideal Vogue any good?
Yes — it's a genuinely different boiler to the Logic, with a stainless steel heat exchanger and a much longer guarantee. It competes properly with Worcester and Vaillant.
