Potterton is one of the oldest names in British heating and there are still thousands of them running in Black Country and Birmingham homes — often well past the age you'd expect.
Potterton is part of the same group as Baxi, so a lot of parts cross over. Promax units are still very repairable; Suprima and Profile are now at the point where we'll usually recommend replacement.

What goes wrong with Potterton boilers
PCB failure (Suprima)
A well-documented weak point. Replacement boards exist but the cost rarely justifies it on an old unit.
Ignition lockout
No flame detected — gas supply, electrodes or frozen condensate on the newer condensing models.
Overheat / cycling
Poor circulation from sludge or a failing pump. Often a powerflush job, not a parts job.
Losing pressure
Expansion vessel or a hidden leak under floors — we pressure-test rather than guess.

Promax units under about twelve years old are worth keeping going. Suprima, Profile and back boiler Pottertons are almost always better converted to a modern combi — the running-cost saving alone is significant.
We convert a lot of Potterton back boilers to Worcester Bosch Greenstar combis. Old boiler and cylinder out, combi in, fireplace made good — normally two days.

Can you still get parts for a Potterton?
For Promax and Gold, yes. For Suprima and older Profile units, availability is thin and we'll tell you honestly before you spend money on a diagnostic.
Should I repair or replace my Potterton?
As a rough rule, if the repair is more than a third of the cost of a new boiler and the unit is over twelve years old, replace it. We'll price both so you can compare.
Do you remove Potterton back boilers?
